While there are other emulators for Saturn (SSF comes to mind), these are not compatible with Linux so I’ll skip over them. Saturn games are notoriously hard to run on weak hardware, but with the powerful specs of the Deck, I don’t think you’ll run into much trouble. You can get it here: Emulating Saturn games This is the best way to experience these games on the Deck.

It offers mod support, two-player online multiplayer and more. Sega has a compilation game with dozens of games from this console on Steam. One exception is the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. There’s also not a lot interesting ports/remakes that I can talk about. is really easy to emulate and runs on much weaker hardware.

I’m starting with the fourth-generation of consoles (Saturn, PS1, N64) and skipping everything before that. With the release of the Deck a little over two months away, I wanted to take a look at these older platforms and give a bit of a guide on how you can relive them through ports, remakes and emulation.

The Steam library in general also offers a lot more ports/remakes of older console games. The Steam Deck is beefy for a handheld and thus up to task of emulating more platforms than ever before in a handheld form factor.
